Workshop 3: Introduction to 3D/Print

3D Printing means printing out objects from a template, it is done by building layers upon layers of material to create a version of your idea.

Lithoforms –

Lithoforms are made from 3D printing process, they are printed photographs on to translucent plaques which are made in to 3D photos.that are then backlit to show the image. The lithograms are finely detailed and thin.

Below are some common terms for use in 3D printing:

CNC: CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Machining is a process used in the manufacturing sector that involves the use of computers to control machine tools. Tools that can be controlled in this manner include lathes, routers, mills and grinders. The first CNC was created by John.t. Parsons who pioneered numerical control for machine tools in the 1940s. .

STL: STL files describe only the surface geometry of a 3D object and are used when you have decided on your concept to create the 3D piece.

123D Catch: 123D Catch is an Auto Desk Pilot APP which which is portable and instant. It takes upto 50 photographs all around an object which creates a Three-Dimensional model of it. The downside to using this is that the cameras may not be best quality, it uses Cloud processing, and the phone capacity may not be able manage it.
